Connecting Aprilia Pegaso 650 and BMW F650

Connecting Aprilia Pegaso 650 and BMW F650

For Aprilia Pegaso 650 and BMW F650, connecting the Solvart regulator rectifier is a bit more complicated, however it is perfectly good for those types, which is proven by the fact that we sold more than 24 rectifiers* for these two types in the year 2022 and 2023.

*These statistics only include those data where the buyer specifically given the brand and type during the order. Obviously it does not include those purchases when someone did not specify their motorcycle data.

In the case of the Pegaso 650 and the BMW F650, the complexity of the connection comes from the fact that the coloring and connection of the coloring of the original wires do not match (in fact, they are particularly misleading) with the coloring of the wires of our rectifier. Do not connect the wires of the rectifier by color to the motorcycle! Be sure to use a multimeter to identify the wires before connecting, even though if we summarize below which wire is what (can be).

What’s wrong?

The problem with both types is that:

  • There is a switched positive wire on the original rectifier, but our regulator rectifier does not have it. In case of replacement this switched positive wire (from the motorcycle side) does not need to be connected to our regulator rectifier (see in detail why in point 8 of the FAQ)
  • The ground (the negative) wire is not colored in the usual way like other motorcycles brands / types.

Aprilia Pegaso 650

For this motorcycle, the wires from the motorcycle side are probably provided with the following coloring below. But as we already wrote, you should ALWAYS identify the wires on your motorcycle with a multimeter, because we cannot guarantee this wire coloring, rather take this as a guideline as to what you need to measure on the wires from the motorcycle side (left column - middle column).

If you also measure this, then how should you connect it to on our (Solvart) rectifier (middle column - right column):

Wire from Pegaso 650

Function

Solvart rectifier wires

red positive red

green

(rarely: red-striped coloring)

switched positive no wire

brown

(rarely: ground with eyelet cable )

negative green

Summarized also in text:

From the motorcycle side (from the Aprilia Pegaso 650), the switched positive wire (usually green, rarely red-striped coloring) is left out (it does not need to be connected to the rectifier), insulate it with insulating tape. Our rectifier solves this differently it doesn’t need swtiched positive wire.

From the motorcycle side, connect the negative (brown) wire, to our rectifier’s negative (green) wire.

(Rarely, there is no negative wire from the motorcycle side. In this case you ground the negative (green) wire from the Solvart rectifier somewhere on the metallic surface of the motorcycle body, with an eyelet cable end (we can add this to the rectifier if you indicate it in the comments section of your order). Pay attention to ground it on the metallic surface (the painted surface of the motorcycle is insulating, you can't ground it there!))

All in all, do not connect the green wire from the motorcycle side   to   the green wire from our rectifier, because although it matches the color, it does not match the function (in case of Aprilia Pegaso 650)

If this description helped you with the connection and it was the same for you / it wasn't the same for you, then you can comment it below with your Facebook profile, give a feedback (be sure to mention which of the two brands (Pegaso or BMW F650) are you talking about!).
